USA Rugby Coaching Clinics

Fall 2023 Courses

Level 1 Coaching Course

All contact teams require an active Level 1 Coach to be in compliance with USA Rugby. This course consists of online pre-course work and attendance at an in-person clinic.

The Level 1 Coach Course (formerly L200) focuses on player welfare and the technical skills to play safely – specifically the tackle and the scrum. The course requires coaches to demonstrate effective coaching techniques, taught in the course including teaching through games, technical skill development through progressions, and collaborative coaching.

This course is suitable for all experience levels and will likely comprise a mix of veteran players/coaches and those new to the game – all benefiting from a free exchange of ideas/experience.

Questions?

Pre-Course Work:

The course requires you complete 3 online modules provided by World Rugby before attending the course. Please bring a print out of your Certificate of Completion for each course. If this pre-work is not completed, you may be turned away from the course. You will not be able to obtain L1 qualification without completing these modules.

  1. Rugby Ready
  2. Introduction to Coaching
  3. Concussion Management

Level 2 Coaching Course

The Level 2 Coaching Certification (formerly Level 300)  is the next step in the American Rugby Model (ARM) following the L1. The certification progresses towards advanced coaching skills used in athlete development and program building. This course is much more involved than the Level 1 with respect to pre-coursework, the in-person clinic, and post-coursework.

The objective of the certification is for coaches to increase their ability to coach technical skills to achieve strategic and tactical outcomes. Coaches will be able to use the coaching process, key factor analysis, and functional role analysis to achieve specific short and medium term goals for their teams.
